NLRB judge rules that Amazon broke labor laws in Staten Island (again)

Image
Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge A judge for the National Labor Relations Board has determined that Amazon broke labor laws in the run-up to union elections at its JFK8 and LDJ5 facilities in Staten Island, New York. According to the judge, the company threatened workers by saying they wouldn’t get raises or additional benefits during a potential collective bargaining period and discriminated against union organizers while enforcing its solicitation policies. According to the decision, posted in full by Bloomberg Law , Amazon removed a post from an internal forum that called for workers to sign an Amazon Labor Union petition to get holiday pay for Juneteenth. Amazon allegedly cited its solicitation rules, but the judge says the company didn’t take the same action against... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/7ET2frC

EA shared the news about the change as part of its Q3 FY203 earnings results. The songs that are on it and their rankings will almost certainly change before the big replay roundup in December , but it’s nice to start using it now as a shortcut to playing music you know you’ll like. The playlist has come a bit early this year, as XDA Developers points out . The 2022 version was released around the middle of February . The latest Super Mario Bros. Movie teaser showcases Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong

Image
Image: Nintendo The latest Super Mario Bros. Movie teaser lets us hear Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong for the first time. During the clip, Mario faces off against Donkey Kong in an arena of sorts — just like we’ve seen in the previous trailer — but this trailer expands on the scene. While it seems like Mario’s on the losing side of the battle, this appears to change when the titular plumber hits a question mark block, and (presumably) gets the Super Bell, transforming him into Cat Mario. Seeing Mario in his adorably fuzzy catsuit sends Donkey Kong into a laughing fit, which gives us a chance to hear Rogen’s signature laugh . Image: Nintendo Don’t laugh at Cat Mario. OnePlus 11R render looks a lot like the current OnePlus flagship

Image
OnePlus 11R render might give you deja vu as it resembles the OnePlus 11 in looks. The similarity in its rear camera housing is the key reason for this. The button placement looks different though. The images come from Ice Universe who refers to the device as OnePlus Ace 2, which as you may know is the branding for the device in China.  OnePlus 11R render leak: What it reveals OnePlus seems to be reusing the design of the OnePlus 11 for 11R. At least, the rear camera housing which is a key design differentiator for Android phones looks quite similar between the two OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 11R render shows three cameras and a flash lens sitting on a round island. The island is connected to the side frame of the device via a glossy bridge (probably made of stainless steel).  The 11R appears to be flanked by the volume rockers on the right side. The SIM tray may also sit on that side. The left side, meanwhile, seems to have the power key (which could also double as the fingerprint

Launched in 2021 , Copilot leverages OpenAI’s technology to generate and suggest lines of code directly within a programmer’s code editor. Capcom’s major Street Fighter 5 tournament ditches PlayStation consoles for PCs

Image
Image: Capcom Capcom will exclusively use PCs to power its upcoming Capcom Cup tournament, which has the world’s top Street Fighter 5 players battling it out for a $300,000 prize pool. In a post on Twitter , Capcom Fighters says all matches will be played on PCs with the displays set to 144Hz. The company doesn’t provide any information on the hardware going into these PCs (or if they’ll just use gaming laptops), but the move’s expected to reduce input lag — the time it takes for a system to translate your button press on a keyboard or controller to an action displayed on the screen. Low input lag is a necessity for pros in the fighting game scene, where a delayed punch or kick can greatly affect the outcome of a match. pic.twitter.com/UbQK0gESD2 —... Details are light on this new Tomb Raider series, but THR says that while Waller-Bridge will serve as a writer and executive producer, she won’t be starring in the show. The show is apparently still in the development stages, so we probably shouldn’t expect to see it anytime soon. This new series could be another potentially big video game franchise adaptation for Amazon, which announced in December that it would be making a God of War TV show . The Samsung Galaxy S23 might be able to survive a waist-high drop on concrete

But despite what Musk has said recently about his “track record” of raising money, the paper claims investors aren’t immediately getting in line to grab the pieces of Twitter he’s offering. Sources tell the WSJ that in December, the billionaire’s team sent out emails to potential investors trying to raise $3 billion to pay off “an unsecured portion” of Twitter’s $13 billion debt with the highest interest rate. Elon Musk’s Twitter is caving to government censorship, just like he promised

Prime Minister Narendra Modi | Getty Images Tech companies — including Twitter — are following the Indian government’s demands to suppress a BBC documentary critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As reported by The Intercept and TechCrunch , Twitter and YouTube both locally blocked The Modi Question , which investigates claims of Modi’s involvement in India’s deadly 2002 Gujarat riots. It’s one of Twitter’s first tangles with India under the ownership of billionaire Elon Musk, but contrary to some writing , the documentary’s ban isn’t an example of Musk violating a vocal “free speech absolutist” ethos. It’s a reminder that Musk has always been fine with government censorship. Over the weekend, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting senior advisor Kanchan Gupta tweeted that both... The base M2 14-inch MacBook Pro has an SSD downgrade

Image
A previous-generation 14-inch MacBook Pro with a potentially faster SSD than the the latest models. | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge The base level 14-inch M2 MacBook Pro reportedly has a slower SSD than its predecessor, according to tests done by 9to5Mac . In BlackMagic’s Disk Speed Test, the 512GB SSD in Apple’s latest flagship achieved read speed scores of around 2,970 MB/s and write speed scores of around 3,150 MB/s, compared to 4,900 MB/s reads and 3,950 MB/s writes that the M1 Pro with a 512GB SSD was capable of. That means the 2023 base model has around 39 percent slower reads and 20 percent slower writes than the one released in 2021 . The reason for the difference is likely down to chips. According to 9to5Mac , the 512GB SSD in the previous-gen 14-inch had four NAND storage chips, whereas the one on the M2 Pro seems to have two. Those are obviously... Meta’s flagship VR app is catching up to the NES by making A the jump button

Image
I, too, am throwing my hands in the air for this change. | Image: Meta Meta is making a big improvement to controls in its social VR platform Horizon Worlds : jump is being remapped to the A button, according to a blog post about the app’s new v94 update . You might be surprised to hear that wasn’t the case before, especially given that the A button has been widely used for jumping in video games for decades. But before now, you jumped in Horizon Worlds by pressing the right thumbstick as if it was a button. If you ask me, that wasn’t ideal; not only is jump not where you might expect it to be but the right thumbstick is already used to rotate your character, so pushing down the stick to jump could also lead to accidental turns. Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge GoTo, the remote collaboration and IT software company that owns LastPass, has confirmed that, along with LastPass’ password vaults , it had customer data taken by attackers during a November 2022 security breach ( via TechCrunch ). The company, which was formerly known as LogMeIn, is updating its blog post about the breach for the first time since November 30th, when GoTo confirmed “unusual activity” within its development environment and cloud storage service. Many of GoTo’s enterprise products were affected, including Central, Pro, join.me, Hamachi, and RemotelyAnywhere. GoTo CEO Paddy Srinivasan writes that a hacker “exfiltrated encrypted backups from a third-party cloud storage service” and acquired the encryption key for a portion of... Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out has a long name and a lot of heart

Image
Jacob Buster and Emma Tremblay in Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out . | Image: Sundance Institute It’s pretty easy to look at a film title like Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out — which, from now on, I’m just calling Aliens Abducted My Parents — and roll your eyes. It’s just so goofy. (And admittedly makes it really hard to write a headline for.) But it’s also incredibly fitting and does a great job of selling what this movie is all about. Director Jake Van Wagoner’s Aliens Abducted My Parents , which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival , is a lighthearted mashup of a family-friendly caper and coming-of-age tale, one that does just enough weird sci-fi stuff to help it get away with an otherwise formulaic story. Ten years ago, a young Calvin (Jacob Buster) was waiting on his roof with his dad (Will... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/YRlxEcz

We might see the PS5 Pro sooner than planned as per new PlayStation 5 Pro launch rumours

Image
A recent report from an anonymous source reveals new information about Sony's upcoming home console. The source claims that Sony plans to release a new model of the PS5 as early as April 2023, which would be approximately two and a half years after the original version was released in late 2020. The likelihood of this new model is a Pro version rather than the rumoured "slim" version is said to be very high. More PS5 rumours Additionally, there are rumours about an increase in performance for the new model. It is known that the current PS5 uses a fan and liquid metal compound for cooling, which has recently sparked some controversy. However, it is speculated that Sony may replace the current cooling system with liquid cooling or "watercooling" which is commonly found in gaming PCs in the next generation. This would likely result in improved heat management, allowing the console to handle a more powerful chip without overheating. This change in cooling may als

Surprise, surprise: the cell carriers didn’t get rid of passwords

Image
Remember this logo? I bet you don’t. | Image: ZenKey Do you remember ZenKey, the app that AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint (gone, but not forgotten) pushed as the future of logging in to services without a password ? If you do, you may be one of the only ones — as LightReading points out , it appears as though the joint venture quietly crumbled after the service started rolling out in 2019 . Originally announced as “Project Verify” in 2018, ZenKey was meant to be a single sign-on system, similar to the sign in with Google or Apple buttons that you see on various websites. The idea was that each carrier would offer an app that could verify your identity, then act as a pass whenever you went to log into a supported website or carry out something like a bank transfer. In theory, it could be... Continue reading… from The Verge - All Posts https://ift.tt/f1PDRJB

Elon Musk gets serious about 420 at securities fraud trial

Image
Illustration by Laura Normand / The Verge Elon Musk insists that 420 isn’t a joke to him. In testimony during his ongoing securities fraud trial on Monday, Musk argued that the $420-a-share price he proposed back in his infamous “funding secured” tweet from 2018 wasn’t a weed joke but actually just a coincidence — with a dash of karma. Musk was asked about the proposed share price by Nicholas Porritt, an attorney for a class of Tesla investors who are suing the billionaire CEO for the loss of millions of dollars that they say resulted from his bungled attempt to take Tesla private. And it prompted an eyebrow-raising response from Musk regarding what he considered a serious proposal despite nearly everyone else taking it as an obvious reference to cannabis . “You rounded up to...
